Do Incomplete GUT Multiplets Always Spoil Unification?

چکیده
We consider a new class of light vectorlike exotics with fractional electric charge which do not come in complete representations of a grand unified gauge group, and are nevertheless compatible with gauge coupling unification and other predictions from Grand Unified Theories. Such states naturally arise in orbifold constructions of the heterotic string. Some aspects of their phenomenology and the consequences for the LHC are explored. Submitted for the SUSY07 proceedings. Local Grand Unification
In the standard model matter fields form complete representations of a grand unified group whereas Higgs fields belong to incomplete ‘split’ multiplets. This remarkable fact is naturally explained by ‘local grand unification’ in higher-dimensional extensions of the standard model. Here, the generations of matter fields are localized in regions of compact space which are endowed with a GUT gauge...
متن کاملPartly Supersymmetric Grand Unification
It is shown how grand unification can occur in models which are partly supersymmetric. The particle states which are composite do not contribute to the running of gauge couplings above the compositeness scale, while the elementary states contribute the usual large logarithmns. This introduces a new differential running contribution to the gauge couplings from partly composite SU(5) matter multi...
متن کاملGauge Coupling Unification in General Supersymmetric Models
We study the effects of additional fields on the unification of gauge couplings in supersymmetric models. We find that the effects are quite constrained by the requirement of SU(5) gauge invariance. In general, we find that any extension of the MSSM will form complete SU(5) multiplets or spoil gauge coupling unification.
متن کاملLow-energy constraints from unification of matter multiplets
We study the low-energy consequences of the mass and mixing angle relations in grand unified theories (GUT), which follow from an assumption that some quarks and leptons are placed in the same GUT multiplets. This assumption is a simple extension of that for the well-known bottom/tau mass ratio, which is one of the most successful predictions of grand unification of matter multiplets. We show t...
متن کاملSolving problems of 4D minimal SO(10) model in a warped extra dimension
The minimal renormalizable supersymmetric SO(10) model, an SO(10) framework with only one 10 and one 126 Higgs multiplets in the Yukawa sector, is attractive because of its high predictive power for the neutrino oscillation data. However, this model suffers from problems related to running of gauge couplings. The gauge coupling unification may be spoiled due to the presence of Higgs multiplets ...
